at the end of november i did wedding cupcakes for an old friend of my brothers.

they got married at an amazing old restored movie theatre downtown - perfect place!

i am still extremely modest when it comes to my cupcakes. i can't believe people want to order them off me, it makes me a bit giddy inside!

so when greg asked me to do his wedding cupcakes i was so honoured:)

this was also my first fondant experience

well, if you know me or read my blog it's no secret that my true love in life is....the beatles!

i am head over heels, scream your heart out, i love you forever in love with the fab 4.

ever since i was a young gal i have adored the beatles!

i am going to do a VLOG all about my love for them & how they've changed my life.

i am so excited to do it! i will post it in the next week or so:)

pete and i are planning a trip to europe this summer!

i am giddy just thinking about visiting london and seeing so many beatles monuments!

thursday night i had 2 of my girls from work over for a wine night,

friday night i had 2 of my girlfriends who i used to work with over for wine night! (lol)

saturday i got to babysit my niece ivy, who i am head over heels with... -- & then went out for a bachelorette party for my friend! so much fun! great party, dinner & karoke! omg best ever.

today was very relaxing! hung out with petey & watched the all star game,

and then had the most amazing dinner at the keg. oh em gee - so full right now.

So this past week I got to share some amazing happy girl answers from some wonderful bloggers! A huge thanks to all the girls who participated - Thank you for being so amazing.

Can't believe that blogging has become such a big part of my life - over the past few years I have realized how much I love to write and share fun & positive things with anyone who is willing to read them. I still can't believe that almost 500 people follow my blog. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read my posts, comment or share their own blog posts!:)

I hopefully have a few more belated happy girl posts coming but for now I thought I would share my own answers to the questions. People quite often ask me how I am so happy and positive all the time, and the truth is that I have no reason not to be!

What is your "happy place"? What are you doing when you're the happiest?

It's too hard for me to give one answer because so many places make me happy. But to name a few - sunday's relaxing & enjoying a coffee/tea with my boy, family gatherings!, discovering a new beautiful place - i love to travel so i am so happy when i am in a new place i've never been, going on an adventures!!, sitting in the sunshine at the cottage with a drink & a good book, spending time with my besfriends, being a hostess/planning parties

"Think happy thoughts" - What helps you get past a bad day and back to happiness?
Despite the fact that I am generally a very happy person, I do still have rough days. Sometimes I let something small get to me but it doesn't take long for me to snap out of it. Crazy as it sounds, losing my Dad when I was 18 taught me so much. I was always happy and positive but since it's an extremely hard thing to deal with, and I still struggle with it today - I tried my best to turn my experience in to something positive as I knew he would want me to. So, I realize even more so how precious life is. How important it is to live a life of love and happiness, and never let anything bring you down because you only get one life to live and there's no reason for it to be anything short of amazing. I always focus on the positive - boyfriend, family, friends etc. Also, always having fun plans on the go makes me really happy & excited:)

What's a song that instantly makes you smile?

I think it's really important to remember how lucky you really are. Even if you are having a bad day, or if nothing is going your way, think of how many people who would do anything to be in your shoes. We often take our own lives for granted when really we are so incredibly lucky. I always remind myself that I have an amazing boyfriend, an incredible and close family, the best friends, a good job, a great apartment, food on my plate every day and always something to look forward to. You create your own destiny. If something isn't happening, MAKE it happen. The possibilities are endless. DREAM BIG. never give up & never grow up! Think happy // Be happy :):):)

My HAPPY girl for today is the beautiful, sweet, caring & inspiring Amber from " I love you to the moon" - Amber is incredible, I am actually kind of in love with her and hope she's not weirded out by the fact that I refer to her as my "blog crush" lolz. But honestly, she's the sweetest girl ever and if you read her blog than I know you will agree. What I love about Amber is that she is so honest and sincere in her blog posts. Her posts all come straight from the heart and I really admire that about her. She posts about her amazing love with her Hubby (omg, they are so cute), her absolutely gorgeous outfits, what's she's up to that day/weekend, she posts the sweetest vlogs and talks about her strong relationship with God, and her Family and Friends. She is beyond amazing so please read below for her answers :)

What is your "happy place"? What are you doing when you're the happiest?

I am the happiest when I’m doing something I love. Whether it’s spending time with my sweet family, husband, or friends, taking a bubble bath and listening to my favorite music, coffee dates, reading a good book, or spending quiet time with Jesus.

My favorite place to escape is a prayer chapel on the outskirts of town. It’s so peaceful and pretty. I can’t go there and not find happiness and peace. It greets me as I drive up and every unhappy thought fades away.

"Think happy thoughts" - What helps you get past a bad day and back to happiness?

Problems tend to be temporary and have a way of working themselves out. There is no need to stress and worry myself sick.

One of my favorite teachers in high school wrote that exact same thing to me on a piece of yellow notepad paper and handed to me in class one time, when I couldn’t stop the tears from flowing.

I can’t remember what was wrong that day at all, but those words have stuck with me since.

Problems are temporary, make the most of your day.

I try to focus on the good in each day as much as possible.

When I’m having a bad day, I try my very best not to take it out on others. That is one that I hate that I sometimes do. I do not want to let bad days affect those that I love most.

What's a song that instantly makes you smile?

Oh, goodness. So hard to pick just one. I have so many happy songs! I’m gonna go with “Hey jude.” So many happy memories associated with that song.

I can’t help but smile as soon as it comes on. My best friend has me programmed into her phone as Jude and it may very well be my future kids name someday. :]

Do you have any favourite blogs/websites that make you a happy gal?

I have a few blogs that I adore and check almost daily. But, www.sometimessweet.com has been one of my favorites since I first started blogging. Danielle is the sweetest thing. She has such a happy precious little family and her blog always puts me in a good mood.

I also look at www.thepioneerwoman.com when I need a good laugh. Her writing is so funny AND! Her recipes are always fabulous.

Favourite quote to remind you how amazing life is?

This is one of my favorite quotes lately – “I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.”

Power of choice is a pretty amazing thing. Choosing to be happy is the best thing I can choose to be each day.

What advice do you have to give about living a life of love and happiness?

Focus on little things that make you smile every day. The sun that shines on your face and makes feel warm and loved, pets that love unconditionally, a dress that fits just right, bright red lipstick, a good hair day, a friend that loves at all times. I think once you begin to focus on the good in every single day, that way of thinking permeates throughout your life.

Bad days are inevitable, but it doesn’t mean we have to bask in negativity and unhappiness. It’s easy to do, but so worthwhile to focus on the good in every day.

Today's happy girl is the darling Elycia of Love Elycia !!! I feel like Elycia is one of everyone's favourite bloggers! She is so peppy, energetic, creative, and FUN! I am the absolute happiest when I am snuggling on the couch in the afternoon sun with Ivan and both of our kitties curled up on us. Being surrounded by my favourite people...well, people and animals...that is just the best feeling in the world.

I have had a few bad days lately and the things that help me get back to happiness are going for a walk and getting some fresh air, watching something that makes me giggle and taking a few deep breathes and deciding to choose to make today better. Also, making myself look extra cute with a fun outfit helps a lot!

So many oldies make me instantly smile. I especially love Motown and upbeat oldies tunes. I could list tons but one in particular (that is actually not Motown or particularly upbeat) is God Only Knows by The Beach Boys. It is just so pretty. Eeeee! I'm feeling happy just thinking about it

Do you have any favourite blogs/websites that make you a happy gal?

So many! This list could get seriously long. Let me just tell you the blog that has been making me the happiest lately...One Sheepish Girl. Everything Meredith posts is just so good. I love the way she photographs simple everyday things and makes them look so special. Oh, and I have to mention color me katie this video about Katie from Color me Katie. It makes me really happy.

What advice do you have to give about living a life of love and happiness?

Focus your energy on all of the positive things that you have going on and surround yourself with things and people that make you happy.Pay attention to the little details in your life like a silly noise your cat makes, or a really great colour combination. Taking a minute to enjoy those small moments adds up to a lot of happiness that might otherwise go unnoticed!& Let yourself be inspired by the people you admire who are doing great things with their lives.& Also, probably the thing that helps me the most is being able to laugh at myself. Let me tell you, I can be pretty funny.

What is your "happy place"? What are you doing when you're the happiest?

My happy place...hmm, I had to think about this one. I think I have quite a few, but I would have to say one of my happiest places is in the passenger seat while driving. With the sun on my face, listening to good tunes like The Beatles, Neil Young or Band of Horses, pretty scenery out the window. A coffee usually in my right hand, my husband's hand in my left & my smiling kiddo in the back seat.

I have always enjoyed car rides, they give me the time to think & clear my head! Family day trips make me super happy as well!

I totally have bad days. Don't we all! On those days I like to stop & look for some simple things that make me smile. Like my son doing something cute, watching a favorite show, or wearing something that makes me feel AWESOME, usually this can turn my mood around. And I always tell myself that every new day that i'm simply living, even though it might not be going perfect, is still an amazing gift!

What's a song that instantly makes you smile?

A song that instantly makes me happy...Lover by Devandra Banhart! It makes me smile, and always makes me wanna dance around. It's from the Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist soundtrack. That whole soundtrack makes me happy...and the movie! I love it.

I try to read ONLY blogs that make me happy! I love reading about people that inspire me & are original. I love real, positive attitudes. I think blogs in general make me happy!!

What advice do you have to give about living a life of love and happiness?

Life is awesome. Look on the bright side, sounds simple but it's SO TRUE. Feel comfortable in your own skin, love who you are. Take time to notice & appreciate all the GOOD you have in your life, and all the people who love you. Take time to notice the little things too-like pretty sunsets, smiling faces & that perfect new nail polish color/necklace/book/perfume/coffee creamer/whatever you just got that totally makes you smile. Fall in love with everything, every little thing.

What is your "happy place"? What are you doing when you're the happiest?

I recently started working from home, and my happy place at the moment is my cozy little office. I'm surrounded by everything I love--my sewing machine, my crafting supplies, and all of my iDevices. I spend all day doing work that I love, blogging, and interacting with everyone in the incredible blogging community. It makes my day every day!

"Think happy thoughts" - What helps you get past a bad day and back to happiness?

I always rely on music to pull me out of a slump. I'm a huge music junkie and listen to music all day every day, so there's always an album for every mood I find myself in. Someone once told me that the best way to deal wth feelings is to not judge them--just identify what you're feeling, allow yourself a moment to completely feel it with no judgment, and then let it go and move on. Our mind is like a conveyor belt, so it's up to us to let ourselves feel the feeling rather than push it out, deal with it, and let it go. Also, there are no bad emotions--only bad reactions!

What's a song that instantly makes you smile?

Eek! Now that's a tough question because I have so many. I'd have to answer that with an entire album, and that album would be Dr. Dog's Shame Shame. It always hits the spot and is hard NOT to sing along to

I have so many amazing blog friends that lift me up every day. I find so much inspiration from the blogging community, so it's hard to just name a few. I love Delightfully Tacky for style inspiration, Moorea Seal for all things inspiring, and Love, Elycia for an extra burst of positivity.

What advice do you have to give about living a life of love and happiness?

While I am still trying to find the secret to a perfect, well-balanced life, I firmly believe that life is about living in the moment and not judging ourselves too harshly. Fretting about the past causes depression, and worrying about the future only brings anxiety--all we can do is deal with the moment we are in now, let ourselves feel and experience it fully, and take each day one at a time. :)

Happy Sunday Sweethearts!

Today marks the first day of Happy Girl Week on my blog:) - I am so excited about this feature. A few months ago I started my own little Happiness Project and my goal is to just spread happiness and joy to as many people as I possibly can! Over the last few years of starting this blog, I have come across so many beautiful, creative and inspiring girls! I think it's amazing how there are so many wonderful people in this blogging community, it seems like every day I discover a new blog filled with new & fresh ideas.

My happy place is definitely at my home with my little family. I am the most happy just spending time with the ones I treasure. I am also happy when I am creating things :) Art feeds my soul.

Praying. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but seriously I wouldn't be able to be as happy and positive and as full of love as I am if I didn't know that everything that happened would eventually lead to good. Praying and getting things off of my chest and passing it on to God helps me get past things and allows me to move on :)

i am so excited to spend tonight with two of my bestest friends ever.

jenna & carly have been in my life for well over 20 years now. it's so special to me to still have my best friends from elementary school be my best friends today! there's not many people who can say that. i am thankful for having the most amazing friends! we've been through so much together. there's so much more to come!

Cute Toronto : G is for Gelato

So, it's no secret that I am in love with Toronto! I love living in such a lively city, it seems like every week I hear of a new bar, restaurant, cafe or shop that has just opened and is awesome! I recently started a new twitter @cutetoronto - I want to post cute & happy things about the t-dot-o'. Since getting my new DSLR camera for Christmas, and always going on fun adventures in the city, I decided to start posting about all of these cute & awesome places.

First up is an adorable new place that just opened up right by our place - It's called "G is for Gelato" It's a great gelato and expresso bar located right outside St.Lawrence Market on Jarvis st. They have all sorts of delicious warm and cold drinks, gelato (obvs), goodies, bagels & pizza! Pete and I have been in twice, but we've yet to try the Gelato (It's really cold out...) So far our personal favourites are : Jules = Chai Tea Latte && Pete = Hot Apple Cider.

The place is gorgeous inside and the ladies who work there are so sweet! I am looking forward to going back and spending some time there, writing, blogging, dreaming...

hair choices!

So maybe it's just the January blues, or maybe it's just cause I'm crazy like that but, I want to change my hair! I think this is a common issue for most of us gals. We go through phases where we want to cut all our hair off, and then we cut it and then we want it long again! Over the years I have had A LOT of different hair colours, I mean a lot! Right now I am pretty content with my hair, it's getting really long and I've got some what of an ombre thing going on which is kinda what I'm going for. For now, I think I will hold out until before Summer*:) I will do something a bit spunky for summer time, to go with my tan (haha!)

Happy Sunday!

What a great & productive day I've had. Did lots & lots of cleaning and organizing of our place. Feels good to have (almost) everything clean and cute. Finally taking a few minutes to relax. Pete and I have a stew cookin' which will be perfect on this cold winter's night. I am excited to watch the Golden Globes tonight - I love awards shows way too much. Will anyone else be watching?

Amy Winehouse Album Lioness : Hidden Treasures - I have always loved Amy. Years ago my brother Dave introduced me to "Rehab" long before it became her first single. I instantly fell in love with her beautiful & unique voice. I miss her!

The Cities Book - Pete got this book for Christmas. It's so awesome! There is so many cool facts about the most amazing cities in the world.

today pete & i woke up early and headed to scallywags to watch soccer :) had some delicious food, tea/coffee and then went to st.lawrence market - we picked up fresh veggies & beef for the stew we're gonna make in our new crock pot tomorrow!

today we have been snuggled up inside drinking tea and pete playing ps3 and me bloggin' and such! it's sooo cold out.

friday, i'm in love!

happy friday cuties.

it was a long & busy week for me, so i am beyond stoked the weekend is finally here:)

i headed to urban outfitters on my break today, i always find the best stuff on sale there!

i got the cupcake mittens for christmas & i was eyeing this cupcake toque but it was $34 - today when i went in, it was on sale for 10 bucks! so i obvvvviously had to get it.

i am honestly going through cupcake withdrawal.

this is the longest i have gone in like...5 years without baking cupcakes i swear! my last order was a wedding cupcake order at the end of november, and i have just been so busy since then that i haven't had time. i am going to bake some just because cupcakes tomorrow & make them cute as can be (i will take pics & post them for you!) i'm hangin' with some amazing pals tomorrow so i will bring them some cuppy's to say i love them!

ok, gotta go drink dark & stormy's with my boy and watch true blood.

guys, i am kinda freaking out.

it's 2012 - the times are changin', technology has taken over the world, and in most cases it is awesome & i am stoked on it.

but when it comes to books, i am not ready to say goodbye.

i love books. i love to read. i love a real book ; relaxing and getting in to a great story, recommending one to your friends, the smell of an old book from the library, a written message inside a book if it was a gift, the look of piles of books stacked together.

now with kobo's & kindles and all sorts of e-readers, i hope and pray that people don't forget about a good old fashioned book. let's keep books alive! reading is sexy! :)

* i want to explore more of toronto - go to new places, restaurants, bars, shops, bakeries, stores etc. (i also want to take more photo's of awesome places & then do blog posts about them!)

* date niiiights! pete & i always have fun dates together. but i want to make sure we plan at least one really fun//awesome date night a month:)

* EURO TRIP ♥ - this is a huge one for us. pete & i looove to travel, we both work in the travel industry and have a real passion for it! we've never made it over to europe but it's the # 1 spot on our "to travel list". this year is the year we are going to make it happen! instead of doing any little trips or all inclusive trips, we are going to save up for europe:) - ooh baby i am giddy with excitement. we are hoping to go in the summer of 2012. our top 2 places to travel to ;; england & holland ♥ ♥ ♥

*plan more BFFS nights! - plan awesome hangouts with my bestie.

*get my new twitter account up & running - i am starting a new twitter all about cute & happy things in toronto. i want to spread happiness, smile and positivity through the internet!

lifestyle:

*cook more! pete & i love love love cooking. it's so fun trying new recipe's together and enjoying a wonderful meal with just the two of us. we just got a crock pot (stoked!) a walk and some new cook books so we are ready to get creative in the kitchen :) pete & i are going to make a book of our favourite recipes/meal ideas!

*go unplugged! i really want to have nights // days where i turn off my phone, tv, internet and just relax. read, scrapbook, clean, spend time with my boy, do crafts & just be...

*maintain a healthy lifestyle. eat healthier, exercise regularly, pack home made lunches, drink lots of water, go for walks in our neighbourhood, change bad habits & just cleanse!

*don't sweat the small stuff! always remind myself just how lucky i am.

*relax. pete & i are always so busy. i want to be able to have days where we can just relax and hangout. drink tea, sit on our balcony, read books, laugh & enjoy our time together

blog lovin':

*plan a TORONTO blogger meet up! - i know we tried last spring/summer but we just didn't have time to get things organized. i really want to make this happen when the nice weather arrives:) - i would looove to get to hangout with amazingly cute toronto blogger gals:)

*start a blog with pete! yeyeye:) pete & i are going to start a blog together! we want it to be a fun place about our travels, recipes, bars, restaurants, life in toronto etc:)

*find the perfect blog notebook - write down all of my ideas & dreams for my blog and do my very best to make them come true! get more creative with my blog posts. never give up.

*keep going with my happiness project - do my best to spread happiness & joy to those who read my blog!

get crafty:

* spend more time making cute things! :) try DIY's found on blogs etc.

*get creative. read through my craft & sewing books. make sweet things for people as gifts & if i get good enough - perhaps open my own etsy shop!

*post on my blog about the fun things i make. DIY's for blog readers!

goals & dreams:

*do some research on opening a small business. if things aren't happening, make them happen!

*don't give up on my book. gather my thoughts and see what can be done about the book i want to write. designate time to actually work on it and get things going.

*dedicate more time to my cupcake business, do more networking, think of new ideas, get more creative with my cupcakes & orders! dream BIG!

*have cuter style (lol) this is ridiculous, i know. but sometimes i just don't try on my outfits, and i have so many awesome dresses, accessories etc - i have to amp my style!

*more party planning! i kinda want this to be a career some day. i want to host more parties and gatherings. decorate & cook/bake for them and make sure i take lots of photo's to document the occasion!

*follow my heart ♥ & hopefully decide what i am meant to do in the world!

*i want a new tattoo! i haven't got one in a while and have some fun ideas for what i want

get organized:

*plan a budget & stick to it. save money for europe:)

*re-vamp our place - pete & i want to make our place even more awesome. going to do organizing and decorating!

*every few months i want to re-organize my closet, craft stuff & accessories. keep things fresh!

*go through all my old photo's & organize them in albums/boxes so they are all together.

*gather all of my thoughts in list form (omg i am obsessed with lists)

*make time for all my amazing friends & family. make plans with people i don't get to see very often. don't let time pass me by, make sure i make time for everyone:)

ok, i agree that this is a ridiculous amount of goals/dreams/resolutions but i am a very busy girl with a lot happening! haha. a lot of these things are simple little things that will make my life even more awesome than it is. some are small & silly and some are huge and quite possibly unrealistic. i want this to be another great, positive year in my life!

2011 wrap up..

2011 was really good to me.

it wasn't until the other day when i looked back on all the things that happened this year that i realized just how great this year was!

some amazing things that happened this year :) :) :)

won $2000 at bingo! (jackpot baby) //

went on an all inclusive trip to cubs with my boy♥

celebrated valentine's day with my love ------- went to the food show! so fun.

had lots of fun nights out on the town in the t-dot-o ///// went to the JUNO'S!!!

spent lots of time in my cute little apartment. hosting & having friends over for giggles:)

watched the toronto blue jays:) - went to the movies (i looooove going to the movies!)

spent time with my bff (always the best time) ------ GOT A NEW JOB (!) STOKED.

enjoyed a visit from my uncle al who lives in thailand. such a special time to have him home.

celebrated pete & i's 3 year anniversary! :) - oooooh so wonderful. such a gem he is.

saw GLEE live with my gays (so much fun!) ---- saw aretha franklin live at a free show <3

hosted a cute pink lemonade baby shower for my sistah-in-law & her cutie baby girl to be !!!

celebrated toronto pride! &&&& visited family for weekend of fun visits.

went to chantal & steve's wedding ; such an amazingly cute wedding! love them bothhh!

lots of cottage weekends && pool parties && BBQS with the best people ever.

moved in to the best apartment with the best boyfriend ever.

thanksgiving weekend at the cabin with my bffs.

become an aunt for the first time with the cutest babygirl, ivy!

had a lot of cupcake orders throughout the year!!

had 2 big wedding cupcake orders in the fall *

loved doing them soooo much :)

celebrated my grandpa & grandma's 64th wedding anniversary. omgz. perfect!

enjoyed many sunsets from our new sweet balcony.

pete did MOVEMBER & had an epic stache.

had another unbelievable christmas & holiday season with my friends and family.

got spoiled beyond belief! luckiest

i am so thankful for a wonderful year.

hi hi hi loves!

i hope everyone is well :)

i have been so busy the past month & a bit that i haven't had time to relax (or blog!)

quebec city was awesome, i had a lot of fun - but got no sleep & got sick after - after sleeping all day yesterday and taking some buckley's, eating soup etc... i feel better!

today is the first day in so long where i don't really have anything to do! it feels amazing.

i am going to relax, clean our place, pack up our christmas stuff (so sad) and maybe grab a few things i need from the mall.

later today &/or tomorrow i will do a 2011 wrap up && my 2012 goals.

NEW YEARS EVE WEEKEND (!!!)

hi everyone:)

i can't believe 2011 is over already. overall, i think it was a pretty good year for me! i will do a little 2011 wrap up soon for you. but for now, pete & i are getting ready to go to a friends cottage for the weekend // new years eve. i guess i really am getting old(er) because the last 3 or 4 years we've just done parties with friends and it's just the best! it's cheap, and safe and great to spend time with awesome friends. we're going to leamy's cottage, after going there in the summer i fell in love with this place! looking forward to this weekend.

we get home sunday && then monday morning really really realllllly early i am going to QUEBEC CITY for work to staff a high school trip! it's going to be a lot of work, and really tiring but so fun! i am looking forward to it very much:)

i will try to update before i leave but if not - i will talk to you cuties next weekend!

i have had the most amazing christmas so far, as usual!

got so spoiled it's silly. just had a few minutes before the rest of our family arrives, so i thought i would say merry christmas!

this year i did a special gift for my family, i got our christmas 1991 vhs video converted on to dvd! it has a lot of really fun and silly moments, and the best part is that there are some amazing parts with my dad in it - it makes me so happy seeing it. (i ball my eyes out every time)

i asked an old friend if he could convert the vhs for me because i knew he had a little business on the side. when i went to pick up the DVD's from his house there was one really special one for me that he made. it was all christmasy and he wrote me the most amazing, kind and thoughtful message on it - i couldn't help but share...

"Merry Christmas Julie! This DVD is the first stamped limited edition copy (not availble in stores!) It's only been released to you and only you. If anyone knows the true meaning of Christmas it's you. You're one of the sweetest, most genuine people I know and I'm happy we're friends! I've been preaching the word unique for years and maybe you have something to do with it. I just remember you in high school and your contagious smile, and positive attitude. You know how to make people feel special, so this is my attempt at giving back. I'm no scholar or poet, but this is my way of saying thanks for being you. what christmas means to me.

merry christmas eve everyone!

first off, sorry i didn't get to finish my 12 days of christmas - i've been so busy with christmas parties, gatherings, shopping, wrapping and spending time with amazing people, that i couldn't find the time to blog too.

i wanted to do a post about what christmas means to me. i am sure that by now you have figured out that i really, really, realllllly love christmas. sometimes people ask me "julie, how did you become SO christmasy?" and the truth is, i don't exactly know...but i think it is because christmas has always been such an amazing time in my life. when i was little, christmas was always my favourite time of year and always made me so happy. looking back on my life, some of my most incredible memories are of christmas time.

there are lots of reasons why i love christmas, and they might not be different than any of your reasons. i think the number one reason why i love it is because it seems to bring out the best in most people. i like how the streets are filled with christmas cheer, that you get to spoil all the people in your life, that you make excuses to see friends you haven't seen in way too long. i love the movies and the music, the drinks and the goodies, the smiles on the street. i love hosting and attending parties, giving out christmas cards, and making people smile. i love spending time with my boy and reminding myself how lucky i am. i love spending time with my family, giving gifts and the look on people's faces on christmas morning. i love christmas phone calls, tweets and texts. but most of all - i love getting to spread joy and love to all of the special people in my life. the most important part of christmas to that you are spending time with those you love and that you are all safe, happy and healthy.

i am so lucky and i will never forget that. christmas time is a good time to remind us all how lucky we really are! i get so spoiled by so many people at this time, everyone is so good to me. i don't know how i got to be so lucky, but i am very thankful i am.

so that's a bit about why i love christmas so much! it fills my heart with so much love & joy and i hope it fills yours too!

first off thank you for all your kind words on my last post. you're all so sweet & made me smile. all of your blogs are so wonderful && i am so thankful that you guys read my blog! :)

12 days of christmas - day 8!:)

for my 12 days of christmas, today i am posting some cute chocolate lollies i made!

i am a firm believer in cute, thoughtful homemade goodies & gifts to give to people:) - these chocolate lollies are super cute & easy to make. perfect for co-workers or little add ons for gifts! i made them for my besties for our secret santa get together and i am going to make some for my pals at work :)

what you'll need ;;

chocolate chips

crushed candy cane

christmas sprinkles

lollipop moulds

lollipop sticks

ribbon

cellophane

christmas spirit*

melt chocolate in a glass bowl (1 minute seems to be the perfect time)

put lollipop sticks in mould

sprinkle candy cane & sprinkles in to mould

pour chocolate in to the mould

put in the fridge for about 30-45 minutes (or longer!)

take out, wrap in cellophane & wrap them with some pretty ribbon!

write out a christmas card and give them to someone wonderful!!!

easy as pie!:)

am i the only one who goes through phases where you just want to give up on your blog? not that it should really matter because i do enjoy blogging and am having lots of fun doing it! it's just discouraging at times.

i feel like i come up with such fun ideas and spend so much time on certain posts..but am not too sure if people even read them! i get very few comments, so for those of you who do leave comments, thank you soooo much! & if you read my blog, but don't comment - say hi:) give me faith. lolz.

hi my christmas cuties!

yesterday i won an amazing giveaway from the lovely larissa bree (she's such a doll!) - i won a print from amy's shop & a christmas card made by her as well! amy's so awesome too:)

ok, when i said i was going to do my 12 days of christmas - i never took in to consideration the fact that i am the busiest gal ever! haha. i will get back to it on sunday! i am having a baking day so i am going to document that & post some fun christmas recipes!

tomorrow after work i am going home to my mom's because i have christmas parties to go to!

this weekend i have 3 christmas parties to go to!!! so excited about that. going to see so many amazing people who i love & haven't seen in a long time. i will post about my weekend of fun!

12 days of christmas - day 6:)

i love snow! - i guess growing up in canada i have become used to associating christmas with snow. i love snow at christmas time so much, it makes everything absolutely perfect ♥ - i always get this wonderful feeling when i see snow fall! this year it has been so mild and we haven't got any snow. I WANT IT NOW! (lol)

i love the movie white christmas. annnd i basically always have have this song in my head (pete even knows all the words now too!) a few years ago i saw white christmas the musical and it was my favourite musical of all time - it snowed at the end. perfection.

here are some fun things to do in the snow ♥ //

make snow angels, have a snowball fight, make a snow fort, do a photoshoot in the snow!, go toboganning, go skiing or snowboarding, go for a pretty walk while it's snowing, catch snowflakes on your tongue, drink hot chocolate/coffee and snuggle and watch the snow fall.

i am so in love with this, for so many reasons!

life is good. christmas is such an incredibly busy time for me but i love every second of it (it's going by WAY too fast!)

a couple weeks ago the lovely miss kait posted about my blog being one of her favourites! made me smile so much:) check out this sweeheart!

12 days of Christmas - day 3:)

For this post I am sharing this amazing poem. I came across it the first Christmas after my dad passed away and I have read it every single year since then. I found it online, but am not sure of the correct author name because every site says someone different, hmph. Christmas has always been a huge part of my life, and I miss my Dad an extra amount at this time of year. He used to help make Christmas time so special and happy for our family and I wish he was here to share it with us year after year.

So, this is for all the amazing people in our lives that are no longer physically here to share Christmas with us, but who we miss and love very much ♥

today is the first day of my 12 days of christmas fun!

i had such a fun night tonight! me & my man went to the "A is for Aldo" fragrance launch party in toronto! such a great event with lots of gorgeous people. i got some free samples of the perfume & will feature them in a giveaway on my blog soon! so wonderful.

for my first day of my 12 days of christmas, i answered some questions from a box of christmas questions i have! i chose a few fun ones. please re-post if you are up for it!:)

if you could kiss any one person under the mistletoe, who who would it be? - duhhh! hehehe. obviously it would be my bubby, pete whish. love you babes! ♥

what is the earliest you have ever woken up to open presents? christmas 1991 we woke up at 5:30am. my dad rented a video camera (that's how rare they were then!) and video taped the clock when we woke up! we have such amazing footage from that christmas. so many amazing memories :)

procrastinator or planner? are you a last minute shopper or is everything checked off your list in july? i am really organized when it comes to christmas! however, i am not done as early as july because that really takes away from the season for me! i make all sorts of lists throughout the season to stay organized and make sure i know what's up. but for me as long as i am organized, it doesn't matter how soon i am done all this stuff:)

what recent christmas movie rivals old standards? ELF! is this movie for me. i think this is the most recent movie for me that rivals any old classic christmas movies!

what item is at the top of your christmas list this year? i am going a bit camera crazy this christmas! i am super stoked on getting any sort of new camera this year. i would loooove an instax mini &/or a canon rebel. i am so spoiled it's silly.

what is your favourite christmas candy? i still love candy canes! so classic, yet so perfect. other than candy canes, my favourite christmas "candy" would be the peppermint candy cane kisses, white chocolate with peppermint, mmm!

what is your favourite christmas smell? is there a special smell that instantly reminds you of the holidays? i have always had a real christmas tree my whole life! so nothing feels more like christmas than a pine scent. mmm, i love the smell of a beautiful real christmas tree! i will forever want a real tree over a fake one! best...smell....ever.

does your family have a unique christmas eve tradition? when i was little, every christmas eve i used to sleep in my brothers room. they both had single beds, and i would always sleep in the middle (hehe) i always loved it so much!:) normally we only one present on christmas eve! we always watch christmas movies together as well. in the last 5 years or so, me and my bro go home for christmas eve and we all order chinese food! i think it's so cute. lolz. also there is normally a lot of baileys involved.

wrap it up! do you wrap presents as you buy them or all at once? i personally like to wrap a bunch of presy's at once! i love getting all of my wrapping paper, bows and ribbon out and getting all cute and creative with the wrapping of my gifts.

it is finally time to open presents! do you prefer to open them one-at-a-time or is it a free-for-all?! i like to open presy's one at a time, i always love watching friends and family open up gifts too. it's so sweet. with pete & i when we open gifts we always have an order to them. it's so cute...pete always tells me what order i should open them in:) hehe

i love LOVE love christmas (as you should all know by now!) & i am so glad everyone will be in full out christmasy mode now!

- send out christmas friends to lots of friends & family

- host some friends for drinks & goodies at our apartment

- watch every single one of my christmas movies (i have about 19 i believe) lolz.

- do a christmas post of our apartment decorated :)

- make at least 3 homemade gifts for friends/family

- upload all my christmas music on to my computer

- do a blog post all about my favourite christmas songs (!!!)

- do A LOT of holiday baking & make a list of christmas goodies to make

- make favours for my christmas party!

- go skating downtown :)

- have a christmasy photo shoot (& hopefully with pete)

- decorate the tree at my moms

- think of some creative ways to wrap & give pete's gifts

- take photo's of every christmas event/party i go to!

- perhaps do a "12 days of christmas" segment on here

hello loves,

over the last little while i've got some new followers so i thought i would do a little post with some facts about me ♥ i love learning more about all of you too!

+ i am a leo and people always say things like "omg you are such a leo" i find it kinda crazy how accurate some leo-isms and horoscopes are!

+ i love sitcoms! like loooove them. i used to love watching all sorts of sitcoms in the 90's .. like wonder years, full house, who's the boss?, growing pains, friends, roseanne, family matters, blossom etc etc

+ surprisingly, i'm not really an animal person. i like them of course. but i never grew up in a house with a cat or a dog, and could never picture my life with one!

+ i am in love with children's books & want to write one some day!

+ i adore old music. i listen to some new artists of course, but i am kind of in love all kinds of retro tunes (beatles, otis redding, supremes, beach boys, the tempations etc)

+ i have a pretty small family, but we're so close! we get together for every birthday, holiday and special event..i feel so lucky :)

+ i can't believe i'm 27. a lot of my friends are married, have houses, kids etc - i realize everyone is different as far as what they want and when they want it. i am so content with my life & what i've done and how i live it.

+ one of my favourite movies of all time is troop beverly hills (anyone know it?)

+ i love to go out & dance the night away. but i also love having a cosy night in just as much!

+ i hate beer.

+ i loooooove toronto! i love living here so much. it's amazing to live in such a vibrant, and exciting city. it's simply devine.

so over the last week or so i have started getting my christmas decorating on! && i had a bit of a christmas disaster (sigh) - while taking my decorations out of my giant red and green bin i realized that a big snow globe of mine exploded all over all of my stuff! ahhhh, so sad. luckily, nothing of great value got ruined. however, i did have to throw out a big garbage bag filled with christmas stuff (so emotional! lolz)

last year my teeny tiny apartment was like a gingerbread house - so christmasy!

but this year while putting up my christmas decorations, there simply aren't enough (even pete said so!) so this week/weekend i am on a mission to find more decorations for our place:)

we are getting a real tree too, just a cute little one. i am so excited.

i will be sure to post photo's of our christmasy apartment ♥

for christmas this year i'm asking for a DSLR camera... i take so many photo's && i love sharing memories with my friends and family. i know a lot of you are in to photography etc and have nice ones. just wondering if anyone can suggest a good quality camera for my first dslr? i am not looking for anything too fancy, i don't want to pursue this as a career or spend an insane amount on one. i am looking for something that will take really gorgeous photo's and is reasonably priced with a good brand name.

any suggestions?! or advice?

So over the past week I have featured a different kind of happy for each day, and I saved the best for last! My boyfriend Pete is the most amazing boy in the world ♥ I feel so lucky to have him in my life and it feels amazing to have my perfect match :) Before I met Pete I used to always wait for the day to find someone I could just be myself with and love & spoil and it seemed impossible until I met him.

Time has literally flown by! It's already been 3 & a half years of LOVE, and I can't wait for so many more years to come. I don't want to get too sappy (too late?) So, I will leave it with saying I love him SO much it's silly! Hehehe...

I have the best family ever! I've grown up with a really tight knit family that I am extremely thankful for. I grew up in a loving home by my amazing mom and dad and incredible two other big brothers. I don't have a very big family, but we are all very close. We get together for every birthday and every holiday and I think that is so amazing! A lot of people aren't lucky enough to have to see their families as much as me. I am a very lucky girl!

Also, as you know I recently became and aunt to the cutest baby girl in the world - Ivy. How cute is that photo of her? I love her so much!!!

I looooooove hosting parties, gatherings, showers or any kind of shindig! I have been a hostess many times, and I absolutely love it. I like having theme parties, and getting creative with decorations, colours and goodies & snacks.

I love parties so much. I love getting to spend time with friends & family and spoil them with fun times! I would love to plan parties for a living some day. That would be simply devine.

Christmas parties are obviously my favourite. I have one every year! I can't wait until this years. Every year I have a different theme, new decor, new treats & goodies and favours.

SO FUN! I love party planning:) - it makes me HAPPY!

7 days of happy - day 4 (sorry, i missed a day!)

Sunday is my favourite day of the week! I always loved Sunday's. When I was younger it was the day I played Ringette (which I loved so much!!) & a day to relax and spend time with my family. I used to love the feeling of Sunday. My dad always watched football all day and we all got to just chill out. It was also a nice family dinner day.

In the more recent years Sunday is my day for me! I love getting to sleep in a bit, relax with a good book & a tea, and spend time with my hunky man. Pete and I usually have fun afternoons plans on Sunday and we get to just veg out on Sunday night. It's simply perfect! Although it's nothing too specific, Sunday does make me HAPPY! (& what perfect day to post this!)

The Beatles have changed my life. I know that they are one of the most famous and recognizable bands in the world, and that a lot of people love them. I am a HUGE Beatle fan. I listen to them all the time, I quote their beautiful lyrics every day, and I truly believe that all you need is love. Last year when Pete took me to see Paul McCartney, it was actually one of the best nights of my life! To hear him play so many of the songs I grew up to and adore was simply wonderful! I may or may not of cried three times (lolz). My mom and dad's wedding song was here, there and everywhere (another reason the beatles won my heart!)

I have two beatles tattoo's * all you need is love && let it be.

The Beatles always put me in a happy mood. I think their way of love, and beliefs and passion are a lot like my outlook on life. I say this as I happen to be watching a Paul McCartney DVD... hehehe. I hope someday I can have my first dance to a beatles song at my wedding ♥ but how could I possibly choose just one?!

7 days of happy - day 2!:)

I have touched on this one a lot on my blog but it's a huge part of my life! I love Christmas. I know (pretty much) everyone loves it too, but I am known for my elf-ism. I have been like this for sooooo long. Christmas time literally lights of my life! It makes me so giggly and happy.

Every year when Christmas comes close, I feel like a kid again. I look forward to so many things come Christmas time like ; the decorations & music!, sending christmas cards, receiving christmas cards, making christmas crafts, watching christmas movies, doing so much friggin christmas baking, work christmas party, holiday drinks!, spending time with my boy and my fam!!, having parties and get togethers, christmas shopping, spoiling people, seeing everyone in a jolly and positive mood.

Christmas is the happiest of times for me. I have so many amazing memories of the time of year and I love making new ones every year. I love looking forward to so many things and to having wonderful traditions with people I love.

I am sure many of you will agree that Christmas definitely makes you happy :)♥

7 days of HAPPY:) - day 1

Memories of my dad make me happy. My dad passed away just before I turned 18. It's been a constant battle dealing with the loss of a parent, but I have taken such a sad and negative thing and tried to turn it into a positive. If you know me or have been following my blog for a while, then the chances are that you have read a blog post about my dad.

I always feel happy when I think of amazing memories of my dad (which is every single day) - I have a notebook of memories of him and every time I think of a fun story or amazing memory of my dad I write it down. Sure, I get sad and upset when I think of him too, but only because I miss him so much and it breaks my heart that he's not here with me (with all my family & friends)

I picked this as my first day of happy because memories of my dad have been and always will be one of the most important things in my life! I am beyond thankful for the amazing years of memories I shared with him, my mom and my brothers. His memory warms my heart every day <3 and when I feel lost or upset, I think of his smile, his laugh, & positive attitude and finally I feel happy again.

Ivy! She's perfect in every way and I love her so much! She's got the best Mommy & Daddy ever and we are all so in love with her. I have already got her so many Christmas gifts:)

Happy Cupcake Wednesday!:)

This is my first week doing one of my new blog features!

Cupcake Wednesday will be a fun post all about Cuppy's! Obvs. This week I am blogging about a Cupcake order I did on October 1st. A friend of mine who I was on the Improv team with in High School had me make her Wedding Cupcakes. She is one of the sweetest, funniest, most amazing girls ever!:) I was so honoured when she asked me to make the Cupcakes for her. Her colours were red and ivory and so much fun to make. When I bake Cupcakes (especially a big order for a wedding) I really have to get in the zone.

Here is how I bake cupcakes step by step ;;

Step 1 : Make a list of all the things I need for the order, where I need to go to get it, and how much I need. Pick up all supplies!

Step 2 : Put some music on. Usually all oldies - "Doo-Wop Express" is my favourite channel on itunes radio. Make the icing first. Depending on how many I have to make, and when they have to be made by...I sometimes make all of the buttercream icing the night before! Make all the icing and put it in tupperware or mix the colour if it's a dark colour (The longer you leave the colour in the icing, the darker it gets!)

Step 3 : Make all the Cupcakes. While the Cupcakes are baking, I mix the colour in the icing and put it in the icing bag. Take the cooked cupcakes out and leave them on the drying rack, once they are all dry start icing them!

Step 4 : Once Cupcakes are iced I put the sprinkles and decorations on and then put them in my cupcake courier or boxes. Take photo's of Cupcakes. Put them in Packaging, add business cards, stickers, and a Thank you card!:)

Step 5 : In this case, delivered the Cupcakes to the wedding venue and set them up on to my Cupacke Tier.

Yay! I was really Happy with how the Cupcakes turned out. Jackie sent me such a sweet email to say they were a huge hit. It always makes me feel so good when someone tells me that they loved the Cupcakes I made them! I still am just shocked people even want to order them off me! Happiness Project - Week One!

HAPPINESS PROJECT:)

So for the last few months I have really wanted to start my own Happiness Project.

I read "The Happiness Project" by Gretchen Rubin and really enjoyed it. Although I already live my life in what I feel is a very Happy & Positive way, I feel like there is always room for improvement.

Sometimes I have to stop and tell myself not to sweat the small stuff, or freak out and get frustrated at something so small and unimportant. I need to stop and smell the roses, Think Happy & Be Happy! I have sort of come up with my own concept as far as my Happiness Project. I am being realistic and not putting a time frame on this. I am going to do it as long as it feels right! There is no point in doing it if it doesn't make me Happy, right?

If you haven't read The Happiness Project I strongly suggest you give it a go. It really makes you think, and it's a very simple concept! I definitely learned a lot.

Ok, so I am starting small with week one so here we go.

Happiness Project // Week One

Contact ten friends that I've met abroad &/or haven't talked to in a long time. Either by Phone, Email, Mail, Facebook etc. See what is happening in their life and bring some Joy & Happiness by letting them know I am thinking of them & miss them!

Here I go. GET HAPPY!

+ start my happiness project!

+ launch my new blog makeover & fun things to come:)

+ update my cupcake fan page on facebook&blog

+ spend more time to read this month!

+ start my christmas shopping:)

+ write a post to hello giggles ♥

+ write a letter to paul mccartney

+ think of creative homemade gifts/crafts for christmas!

+ do some research on DSLR'S (asking for one for christmas)

& an october goal wrap up. not bad for an insanely busy month!

- make some yummy delicious fall drinks - still gotta do this:)

- do a post all about baby ivy's room!♥ - took photo's! will post soon.

~~- take photo's of place & post em' (esp. once decorated for our parties/shindigs)~~

~~- host a lil' housewarming party~~

- take some pretty fall photo's! & do a photo post on here -gotta post them:)

- start writing my book // putting things together for it - still working on ittt

~~- more autumn walks:)~~

- take photo's of my grandpa&grandma for their 63rd wedding anniversary
- surprise at least one friend with something in the mail.
- make a delicious dessert for thanksgiving

~~- pack healthy & innovative lunches for work~~
